Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Yolanta Mutyambe has urged stakeholders to collaborate and accelerate efforts to improve the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Southern Province.
Speaking at the Southern Province Civil Society Organisations’ Regional Coordination Meeting in Choma District organised by the Water Voices United project, Ms Mutyambe commended the Zambia NGO WASH Forum for its role in decentralised coordination and hosting similar initiatives in other provinces.
She highlighted significant challenges in the region, including low sanitation investment, limited water coverage, and high salinity levels in districts like Kazungula.
Ms. Mutyambe empahsised the need for prioritised collaboration to ensure equitable access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene across the province.
Earlier, Zambia NGO WASH Forum Advocacy Officer Nonde Lwatula explained that the meeting aimed to expand the Forum membership through the Water Voices United Project.
Mr. Lwatula said the transformative four-year project is co-funded by the European Union and Danish People’s Aid and spearheaded by SNV in partnership with the NGO WASH Forum.
“This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities and synergies among WASH Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Zambia. By fostering the CSOs role in WASH governance, the project supports the Zambian Government’s efforts towards the progressive realization of the Human Right to Water and Sanitation. Together, we are not just aiming for change; we’re ensuring a sustainable and equitable future where access to clean water and safe sanitation becomes a reality for all,” he said.
